Villa Location

Villa Clio is in the authentic village of Armeni where village life ambles along at a pretty leisurely pace. The village has a few excellent tavernas and the green trees and the natural springs give shade and coolness even in the summer month. What’s more, the villa is located just 15 minutes’ drive from the beach and resort of Kalyves where you can find a good number of shops, tavernas and bars. Chania Old Town is full of history and well worth a visit, around 30 minutes’ drive away.

Local markets and shopping

There is a mini market 330 yards away from the villa in the village of Armeni for your daily essentials and there’re few local shops selling fresh produce. In Kalyves you can find a great selection of shops and a branch of local supermarket chain where you will find most everyday items. The largest market is on Saturday in Chania selling olives, cheese, yoghurt, fruit and vegetables. The market starts at around 07:30 and finishes at 14:00.

Bars and restaurants

In the village square of Armeni you will find a couple of traditional bars which serve Greek coffee, as well as a choice of drinks. There are also a few tavernas which offer traditional Cretan cuisine. Alternatively, in Kalyves and the neighbouring resort of Almyrida, you will find a much wider selection of tavernas, restaurants and bars with mostly beachside locations.

The nearest beaches are in the resorts of Kalyves and Almyrida which vary from sand, shale and small pebbles. If you are looking to venture further afield, the well-known beaches of Falasarna and Elafonissi are well worth a trip to experience their breath-taking turquoise sea and fine sand . Rethymnon also has some great beaches both in and out of town. Some of these beaches are also nesting areas for the Loggerhead turtles.

Family fun

Limnoupolis Waterpark in Varipetrou is just outside Chania and is a great place to spend a day whether your idea of fun is floating down the lazy river or hurtling down the Black Hole. Mega Drive Go-Karts are great entertainment for all the family. Anyone from 5 years upwards can drive a go-kart but there is also mini golf there too. Horse riding is available at Zoraidas Riding School for all ages and abilities and will take around 40 minutes to get to.

Places of interest

The Archaeological Museum of Chania is located in the old town and is in itself a building dating back to the Venetian period. The War Cemetery in Souda is a reminder of the second world war and is well worth a visit. Handily, there are a couple of local tavernas adjacent serving wholesome homemade dishes.
