The Minoan palace is the main place to visit in Knossos, an important city in antiquity with continuous life from the Neolithic years to the 5th century AD. Built on the hill of Kefalas of Heraklion with easy access to the sea, but also in the interior of Crete. Around the palace stretched the Minoan settlement and on the hills the cemeteries of that time.
In the palace of Knossos, extensive restorations have been made and the variety of building materials, colored mortars, ortho-marbles and murals that adorn rooms and corridors are impressive. The palace is developed around the large Central Courtyard, a public gathering place and the second western courtyard was the official access to the palace and the ritual space.
