The famous lagoon of Balos is located about 56 km northwest of Chania and 17 km northwest of Kissamos. It is formed between the peninsula of Gramvousa and the smallest Cape Tigani under the mountain range of Geroskinou and is of course part of the Natura protection program. It is a famous destination for thousands of tourists every year as it has white sand and exotic white, bright blue-green and turquoise waters.
It is an ideal destination for young and old as it is very shallow and warm. As we move away from it and heading towards the rocks we find that the waters acquire a darker blue color and the waters deepen and become cold, what is needed for a mask. Diamond beach for the prefecture, driving even us crazy, since every year it is like seeing it for the first time, not believing that here again Mother Nature did her best and created something so beautiful and elusive. So no one could visit Chania and miss to see up close this amazing image that is none other than that of Balos.
